Djhoura Abouda Lacroix

As a committed artist, Lacroix is known for her commitment to fighting for freedom of expression and the emancipation of women and minorities. Attracted by the theatre and film trades, in 1979 she founded the group Djurdjura in Paris that has released several albums. Lacroix is the first woman of Maghreb culture to direct films including Algeria Colors and Cinema and Ali in Wonderland.
She is the first woman to testify publicly about the tragedy she experienced in her family through two books – The Veil of Silence and The Narcissus Season which sold over 2 million copies and has been translated into several languages. Djhoura is decorated with the National Order of Merit and the Legion of Honor in France.
