Prof Alim Louis Benabid was appointed professor at Grenoble University and Joseph Fourier University in neurosurgery and biophysics and he has held several positions as a consultant and head of numerous important research laboratories. He discovered the effects mimicking the lesion induced by electrical stimulation at high frequency, which allowed a rebirth of this surgery technique and new therapeutic possibilities. Prof Benabid received a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Galway; from the University of London, from the University of Ontario, Canada, from McGill University, from the University of Porto, from the University of Taiwan, and from the University of Louvain. He has published 523 scientific papers, has given 18 honorary lectures and received 32 medals and prizes.
